Job Description

  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies and procedures that comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks. Regularly review and update risk assessments.
  • Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs for employees on safety practices, emergency procedures, and environmental policies. Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the organization.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure that the company adheres to all relevant health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations. Conduct regular inspections and audits to monitor compliance.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes. Develop corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct drills and exercises to ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies and senior management as required.
  • Health and Safety Culture: Foster a positive health and safety culture within the organization by promoting awareness, encouraging reporting of hazards, and recognizing safe behavior.
  • Environmental Management: Oversee environmental impact assessments, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and promote sustainable practices within the organization.
  • Resource Management: Manage HSE resources, including budget, equipment, and personnel. Ensure that adequate resources are available to support HSE initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and other stakeholders regarding HSE matters. Represent the organization in meetings and discussions related to health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes. Continuously seek opportunities to improve HSE performance and practices within the organization.

Person Specification

  • Should possess relevant degrees in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering, complemented by certifications of NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, CCSP(UK) and NIOSH. 
  • Extensive practical experience, often exceeding 10 years for managerial roles, is crucial, along with proficiency in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and emergency response planning. 
  • Leadership capabilities, technical knowledge of safety equipment and environmental management, and a commitment to legal and ethical standards are essential.
