Description

The Phlebotomist is responsible for the collection of blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing, ensuring accuracy and quality in accordance with established protocols. This role requires interaction with patients to explain procedures, handle samples, and maintain a safe and clean working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain the phlebotomy process, and answer any questions to ensure patient comfort and compliance.
  • Specimen Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures to obtain blood samples. Ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens.
  • Sample Handling: Follow procedures for the proper handling, storage, and transportation of blood samples to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately enter patient information and specimen data into laboratory systems. Maintain and update records as required.
  • Compliance: Adhere to safety and infection control protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to Universal Precautions.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all equipment and supplies are in good working condition and report any issues or malfunctions. Participate in quality control and assurance activities.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent patient care by being empathetic and professional during all interactions. Address and resolve any patient concerns or issues.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and laboratory staff to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality patient care

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification in phlebotomy preferred (e.g., Phlebotomy Technician Certification from an accredited organization).
  • Experience: Previous experience as a Phlebotomist or in a related healthcare field preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in performing venipuncture and capillary puncture.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with professionalism.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift light to moderate weights.
  • Manual dexterity for handling equipment and samples.
  • Vision and hearing acuity sufficient to perform job duties.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
  • Exposure to biological hazards; adherence to safety protocols is required
